Christoffel Jacobus (Jaco) Botha was born on September 17 1972 in Vereeniging. He matriculated at the Pionier School for the Blind in Worcester in 1991.
He obtained a BA degree at the University of Stellenbosch, a BA honours degree (in literature) and a MA degree in Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town. He is the writer of two short story collections: In drie riviere and Sweisbril. He was also the editor, together with Etienne van Heerden, of Die rooi rom@n, an interactive novel on the internet, that was published later. Miskruier is his first novel. He worked for a few years in the IT industry, and he is since 2003 a partner in the small advertising agency, Big Bad Wolf.
He and his wife, the actress Ingrid Lehmensich, live in Johannesburg. He is a regular contributor to BY, Die Burger and Beeld’s Saturday supplement.

- Jaco was in the South African National Blind cricket team that won the World Cup in 1998 in India.

He received the M-Net bursary for creative writing in 1997, and then completed his honours and masters degrees under Etienne van Heerden at the University of Cape Town.
